In the fall of 2005 the Seattle Culinary Academy offered a new course, Sustainable Food Systems Practices, and in doing so became the first culinary program in the Northwest to offer such a course.  In the Summer of 2006 they received, on loan from Skagitonians to Preserve Farmland, a one acre plot of land at La Conner Flats to grow their own produce .  Each week they heard from various members of the Skagit farming community, and then it was time to get their hands dirty. Bob and our team of voluteers taught them to plant, grow and harvest all of their own produce.
